The Foundation is pleased to announce that it will sponsor a scholar in 2012 under the prestigious Arkwright Scholarships Trust. At the recent Awards Ceremony held in the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Barry Maxwell a Trustee of the Foundation, presented the award certificate to Daniel Saul from Sutton Grammar School for Boys. Daniel has recently passed eleven GCSEs and is going on to study Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computing at A level. He is a Foundation Licence holder and his interest in radio has led him to be a part of a team that designed and built large meteorological balloons to transmit live sensor and GPS data. The team were finalists in the 2012 National Science and Engineering Competition.
The Foundationís sponsorship goes right to the heart of its strategy of encouraging young people and boosting technology. Arkwright is the largest scheme of its type in the UK. It is designed to inspire and nurture future leaders in engineering and related areas of design. The vision is that Arkwright scholars will be in the vanguard of guiding the country to future economic prosperity through new engineering and design breakthroughs. The Foundation is proud to be part of that vision.
